Frequently Asked Questions

  1. How do I achieve the perfect at-home manicure?

After filing and smoothing out the nails, apply your first stroke of polish down the center of your nail. Then, add another stroke of polish on either side of the first stroke. On average, you should be able to cover your nail in 2-3 strokes. Repeat on each nail. Let it dry for at least 1 minute before applying your second coat of polish. Finally, seal your nails with Color Dept.’s The Top Coat to maximize shine and protect your polish for long-lasting wear. Julie’s Tips: Wash your hands before you start painting your nail to remove any oils or residue & don’t forget to listen to your favorite playlist while you dress up your nails!

  1. How long does it take for the polish to dry?

Once you’ve given yourself a manicure or pedicure, allow 60 seconds of dry time. For best results wait about two minutes to let the polish dry. Julie’s Tips: Before you start painting your nails, fill a bowl with ice cubes and run cold water over the top. Then, when you finish painting your nails, dip your nails in for about a minute. This will help solidify the polish all the way through, not just on top.

  1. How long does nail polish last on your nails?

Color Dept. nail polish lasts for an average of 6 days without chipping! The wear of our long-lasting nail polish has been lab tested by our manufacturer.
